WELCOME TO FAIRLIGHT GLEN

An independent special school for young people with complex needs, including

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges, and learning difficulties.

Fairlight Glen Independent Special School is a haven for students with SEMH who have had negative experiences in mainstream education. We are registered for 8 to 18, with the main focus on key stages 3, 4 and 5. The curriculum is built around students' interests whilst also placing value on numeracy and literacy. For young people in key stage 5, we offer specialist music provision where they can gain RSL qualifications in music production and performance. Popular timetabled activities for all ages include climbing and music. PSHE is also a key priority where we aim to foster the resilience required for adulthood.

Our core curriculum personlised to the needs of each child leading to AQA Qulifications is built around the essential pillars of numeracy

literacy, and PSHE, which we believe are fundamental in preparing young people for adulthood. Beyond this, we are proud to offer a flexible and student-centred curriculum that reflects individual interests and strengths, helping to reduce barriers to engagement and promote

meaningful learning experiences.

Our specialised music programme gives students the opportunity to write, produce, compose and mix their own music in a fully equipped,

industry-standard environment, with a dedicated floor featuring a professional recording studio, DJ hub, practice room and inspiring creative workspaces. Led by highly experienced staff Sean and Will, students work towards globally recognised RSL qualifications while developing

confidence, creativity and real-world musical skills in a supportive and engaging setting, with Sean also offering instrumental tuition in drums, guitar, ukulele and keyboard.

In addition to academic and creative learning, we place a strong focus on students’ physical health and well-being. Our on-site, state-of-the-art gym supports structured fitness sessions aimed at improving overall health, self-confidence, and resilience. We also run regular rock climbing activities at selected facilities across Kent, providing students with opportunities to challenge themselves physically and mentally in a safe,

supported environment.

At Fairlight Glen, we are committed to providing a nurturing, adaptable learning environment that meets the needs of each individual learner and prepares them for successful, independent futures.

In addition to our academic and enrichment offer, Fairlight Glen is proud to provide dedicated one-to-one mentoring support through our

Student Mentor, Sean Palmer. Sean offers regular individual mentoring sessions, giving pupils a safe, confidential space in which they can

express their thoughts, concerns, and aspirations, and ensuring that every young person has a trusted adult voice within the school. He holds a Level 2 qualification in Counselling Skills and brings over 20 years of experience mentoring children and young people with SEND, including those with SEMH needs. Sean’s work plays a vital role in supporting emotional regulation, self-esteem, and positive decision-making, helping students to build resilience, develop coping strategies, and engage more confidently with their learning and personal development.
